The Wifi on/off switcher is a statusbar plugin that allows to turn off the wifi radio by kernel module unloading to reduce power consumption and thus improves greatly your battery life.

great tool! i'm having one issue however: i can only get a connection using my data plan (no wifi!) when i connect while wifi is enabled and then disable it. if i am disconnected i have to activate wifi first, connect to the web via 3g. only then can i disable the wifi module again...anyone else have this problem?
Nice app. The only thing I would love to see is to be able to dissable the Wifi on startup of the N900.

Comment this 2 lines in wifi.sh script:

Is it possible to set this so that you don't have to select the connection when you enable the wlan again?
Great app! Anyway, I want to ask something.. This app plug the wifi off from kernel, but do someone of you notice differences from running with "never connect automatically" and "never scan for new networks"? I mean, in term of battery consumption.. Despite this I repeat, good job!
P.S. Is there a way to implement the icon of the switched wifi inside the wifi-switcher button.. This is my personal taste but I don't like too many icons in the notifier..
One of the best and most useful apps out there. Before I used to get about 1 to 1 1/2 days between battery charges. Now with this app it got bumped by minimum one whole day and more (depending on usage of phone). A big THANK YOU!!!

saved me. my phone's battery lasted 2 days in 2g mode. now with wifi switcher my battery lasts 4 days...
@ ugo vallauri The tray icon is a long term signal, meanwhile the dialog shows the status of the attempted enable/disable operation and reports if it was successfull or if (and at which stage) there were some errors, therefore I don't plan to remove it for now.
Thanks for this, very useful. I would like to suggest only one improvement: I would prefer if the screen-wide message "WLAN DISABLED" didn't require tapping to disappear. Maybe it is not so important to receive such a message, since you developed such a nice icon for the disabled wlan? :)
Simple, but useful WiFi on/off switcher plugin. I don't use WiFi connections so I really needed to turn this thing off. Many thanks to the developer!
