This is a bottom-line necessity for any serious user. With built-in ssh and ftp sessions it has certainly been useful.
midnight commander - a powerful file manager
GNU Midnight Commander is a text-mode full-screen file manager. It uses a two panel interface and a subshell for command execution. It includes an internal editor with syntax highlighting and an internal viewer with support for binary files. Also included is Virtual Filesystem (VFS), that allows files on remote systems (e.g. FTP, SSH, SMB servers) and files inside archives to be manipulated like real files.

Useful but can you link to a quick start guide. Those who never used mc get lost quickly. How to reach the menu, how to quit mc etc.
Very usefull. Finally in stable repo. Wish there was an option to give 6 stars ;)

One of the most useful tools on a linux-based system. The best file manager available even if one first has to learn how to use it. It's a real powerful swiss knife for all file-base operations! On N900 it's also partly usable via touch screen, i.e. tapping on entries behaves like mouse click.
