I worry about trying to merge contacts behind the scenes. There is not much wiggle room for communicating with the user any problems. The more complicated I continue to make things, the worse it will get.
SSU can only work with what source-code is available. The best opportunity I had was the people on the telepathy list but got little help there on problems in general and didn't hear anything back on this issue. This is why I've just discouraged merging contacts. What's fun is even for system contacts I've only been able to show a single button that isn't even clear if it is text or call.
Another good way would be to make a checkbox for auto-merging and use the src from the duplicate contacts app? Or have it call it upon connect? The contacts are fine once they are merged but once polled again (say a network switch or device restart) the duplicate contacts come back. Can the ssu guys help? maybe they might be able to direct you to the proper channels. It would be nice if this integration worked as intended.
Those bugs are known. The challenge is those bugs relate to how this plugin interacts with closed portions of Maemo and Nokia hasn't been the most helpful at getting those problems resolved (if I even know what channels to go through). So most likely those problems won't be fixed. I was too lazy in the first place to manual merge contacts anyways so that is one work around.
Is this application being actively developed? There are numerous bugs. Conact integration is horrible and even if you merge contacts duplicate contacts reappear upon the next poll. Reconnecting ruins the contacts you do have. Even when starting the SMS within the contact it will act as though the SMS is not a contact. The list of bugs can go on forever.
@ojasjosh Please note the comments I made to S Frierson. That talk.maemo.org thread is the best place to get support. Please include what version of The One Ring you are using as well as your Maemo version.
The callback number is the usual culprit. This is configured through the "nickname" field. A bit confusing but needed to meet some of the requirements. A version of The One Ring is currently going through QA that tries to draw attention to the problem.
Hi Ed Page: I have the same question as sfrierson....everything seems perfect with this app but when I dial any # with this app. IT keeps on flashing dialing but the call is never completed. Should I change any settings or am I missing something.....
@Pash G You can send and receive sms. Because GV does not have a push API that I am aware of, to receive sms this plugin has to poll the server. There are advanced options to tweak this to maximize battery life including disabling completely receiving of sms.
Does this allow free SMS texting?
@S Frierson Can you confirm your callback number is configured to something you are expecting. This is configured through the account's nickname field.
Mind posting the results on the following thread and from there I can help work through this, I don't like to see problems go unresolved. http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=488632
Everything is great with this app. I have a problem though. I can't call with it. When the number is called through this app, it doesn't ring or anything. I was wondering if I was doing anything wrong.
