usbcontrol gives you easy to use access to the powerful host mode of the n810 and n800. Run usbcontrol, switch to host mode and attach any keyboard or usb drive to your device. Keyboards don't need extra power, usb drives usually do.

No, it won't work on the N900; the N900 does not have USB Host hardware.

Does not appear to work on N900. This utility simply does a:

echo "host" > /sys/devices/platform/musb_hdrc/mode

This command works without error but nothing shows up in the 'dmesg' kernel log to indicate anything happens.

Thought this was a great ap and then during a reflash of my 810 I've lost the ability to open it, it's in the installed files (Application Manager) but not in my Personal menu or main menu. How can I re-introduce the icon? I've tried un-installing / re-installing. Thanks

My bad. I broke the install package while making a test version for fremantle. I have a fix, but I'll need to test it on a n800.

This no longer seems to work for quite a few people, especially N810 users. It was working for me for a while, but just recently stopped (won't even load/start), and I've uninstalled/reinstalled/rebooted, etc. I've just moved on to usb-otg-plugin. Sorry, I used to consider this a must-have app, but people have been having problems with this for a while now with no solutions posted.

This looks awesome, I am yet to get my n810 but excited to play and experiment. One thing that I have been wondering about and this host usb just added fuel is if its possible to attach a usb cellular modem and then with some nify software connect to the internet anywhere! - anybody know if this is possible and or in dev?

Install USB Control, buy a F-F USB adaptor which costs about four eurs, and you can plug in a whole range of USB accessories into your tablet including keyboards and flash drives. You can even plug in an HDD apparently, as long as it's got its own power supply.

As well as giving us immediate access to accessories, it means developers can start thinking in terms of supporting mice and other exotic devices on the tablet.

One last point: you can use PS/2 keyboards as well, by buying an equally cheap PS/2-USB adaptor. You don't even need an active adaptor, the passive kind works fine, and they cost almost nothing.

excellent work, a cheap £5 flexible usb keyboard broadens the useability of the device on longer session of email, cli and note taking. Thanks very much.

How can I connect a USB keyboard to my N800? If you plug in a generic adaptor to make the keyboard's USB plug fit, does it work? Please advise...
