It works, sort of. Seems a little iffy for Canada, at least my part of it. Then again, maybe I'm doing something wrong.
First off, I couldn't get any OSM data to download... it just stopped, no error messages. So, I edited the /user/share/roadmap/preferences file and forced a map directory there (changed to metric and increased the label font size while I was at it.) Still couldn't download OSM data, so I grabbed the Canadian data and the index file from http://roadmap.sourceforge.net/maps.html. That worked. I now have a decent roadmap of BC.
But, I still haven't figured out routing, it says it can't find addresses, so I guess I've got a lot more help-file reading to do. Most of the menu options, like download a route from Google, don't seem to do anything... no error messages, just, well, nothing... I'm probably doing something wrong but, you know, it's not all that intuitive.
On the plus side, and why I've given it a 3* rating, is that it does look good - I mean, screen wise, it gives a good vector map. It also has the map loaded locally, so it doesn't need to download aka Maemo-Mapper. Being vector, it doesn't take up that much space and it zooms much easier. Being able to change the road-name font size is a great point as it actually makes the map usable whilst driving. It's nice to be able to actually see the street names at a glance. Can't do that with Mapper. Oh, and it doesn't seem to crash all the time like Mapper does either.
Overall, assuming I can actually figure out what I'm doing wrong with routing, Roadmap has a lot of promise, though it doesn't come easy.
