Sorry about that ! Can you open a bug in bugs.maemo.org and attach a sample file that shows the bug ?
I have a problem after update - all records still made unreadable. I think I loose all passwords from all accounts (over 70)! I use cyrillic symbols in comments to password with previous release, and all be OK. I have found such decision - after creation of new record all become earlier created are accessible. Now I use a transliteration in this programm, but is not good for me.
Unfortunately, it crashes when one is trying to use Unicode PasswordSafe 2.x database files. This makes it almost unusable for most non-english speaking users. Also its databases are not being opened by PasswordSafe 1.x
v1.5.4a starts the support for 1.x file format (still a work in Progress) 3.x format is still not supported and 2.x is better supported. You can submit bugs and feature requests via b.m.o (ie the link above) I'll try and support Maemo 4.x and 5.x as long as I can ... Fred
I'm happy to see some renewed development activities with this application along with frequent releases.
Is version 1.54a now compatible with the current version of Password Safe on other platforms? (http://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/)
For now, I'm using this on the current Maemo 4 N810 device. From a Maemo 4 user perspective, would it be still worthwhile to submit bugs & feature requests or is most development going towards Maemo 5 development? If yes, submit via "Report a bug" on the link above or in project's garage page?
Still some minor UI issues - you can't use the return key when entering your password for instance. A vital app for me.
No theme :) The dark version is the Fremantle one (Maemo5)
Great app!!! what the theme you are using?
I have used PasswordSafe for quite a while now, one partly because of the multiplatform support. If I don't have or lose my n800 I can still open up the password file on my PC. Lately there has been quite a bit development with nice additions such a grouping. Keep up with the good work!
"Password safe is a utility to keep a list of usernames and passwords encrypted with a single password by Peter Weston." - why does Peter Weston know the password?
Maybe you should rephrase that sentence a bit, it reads slightly funny.
Thanks for your input Sean. It is not a coincidence ! It was a very good feature request (you could have used bugzilla) and I knew it missed something like that : you worded it for me Thanks ! On the other hand I don't think I'll implement your new proposal : it means too much change in the file format and there's already a free edit zone that can be used for that ... I think the next change will be to allow url detection in that free edit zone ...
Wow! I do not know if it was just a coincidence or not, but I suggest a drop down menu for the "Groups," field and it appears in the next version. That is service!
Any chance you could make the "Username" and "Password" field names configurable? Make it match existing labels, or you can enter a new name. Instead of it being a username I want to enter, it may be an account number, pin, serial, ID, or some other field name that better fits my data entry.
I have only started using it but it looks like a good program to keep passwords.
A few things I think would help. 1) Include a drop down menu, or a type too match so that a newly added entry can be quickly and easily added to an already created group.
2) Include an option to generate a password in the password field. Include in preferences settings to determine a generated passwords parameters.
3) More view options in the main field. With all that screen space available you could display alongside the entry name, username and password. Or instead you could make the viewable fields configurable to the user. This would save a lot of drilling down for a user.
I downloaded yesterday and decided it wasn't the utility for me - everything was too clunky, it seemed to want to fight me all the time. How many clicks to view/edit an entry?
Then I discovered it was supposed to be compatible with the PC version. Being able to read/edit my password stores across multiple machines and operating systems is a top feature for me so I looked at it again.
That's where the trouble starts again. Can't open anything created on my laptop. Can open files on the laptop created with the tablet but when I edit I'm advised that I should export to (no save) version 2 of the database format. Duly did that and ... on the tablet I get a warning that I should be using version 2 format and everything comes up garbled. I might see how much milage I get using an older version on my laptop: http://passwordsafe.sourceforge.net/2006.shtml
I'm probably going to persist with this program, while praying for some improvements in usability.
Lots of problems with the UI and on basic functionality with the Nokia OS2008.
An application like is really needed for the tablets so hopefully these bugs will be sorted soon and we will have a working OS2008 version.
Great work. Key application for OS2008. Pity it is not compatible with PC version 3.11 (http://www.schneier.com/passsafe.html)
Works great and compatible with the pc verrsion.
