Advanced Backlight is a statusbar applet that combines the volume and backlight applets, and gives access to the full 128 levels of backlight (127 on the N800), as opposed to the 5 levels provided by the Nokia applet.

Very useful applet, must have one :)
whats not to love about this useful, stable app? It should be on the device by default. Plus it works perfect with the LCARS (star trek) themes.
very good implemented, installing this is a must have. very clever :) thumbs up here
I had been using this app for a lot of time, I love the fine tuning it lets me do to the brightness and sound. And, when I installed rotation support (just two months ago), I was delighted to see it so well integrated :)
Very useful application that is well implemented.
Just great. saves space on the tray and provides an easy way to change these settings.
Excellent little piece of software! Small and elegant, but big enough to be used with my (rather large) fingers! Makes room for statusbar clock ;)
I enjoy using this app mostly because it lets me remove a few icons from my status bar without losing functionality. Great stuff.
Great applet, simple and usefull.
When I turned on my brand new N810, it felt broken. It took me some seconds to realize why: I was used to Advanced Backlight on my old N800. (In fact, I was so used to it I no longer thought of it as a 3rd party add-on.)
This isn't only a useful and good app. It's absolutly necessary. Never run a tablet without it.
I couldn't see the point of this applet before and I uninstalled it. Then I realised that it replaced the Maemo sound and brightness icons (remove in control panel > panels) in the precious status bar. Excellent idea!
Being that I'm new to the tablet and linux I don't even know how to remove the default volume and backlight icons from the panel.
Help anyone?
Useful, stable app that should be on the device by default. Plus it works perfect with the LCARS (star trek) themes.
Excellent!
It is an example of clever ways to do more with less. More like this should follow.
Very useful replacement.
Really useful applet.
I hope the success of Advanced Backlight make think to Nokia about how save space in the statusbar if they maintain it in Fremantle.
Great small utility
Much better than the two default applets it replaces.
Excellent! Helps me keep my status bar on one line. This should be standard.
Essential app.
Hi there!
Really loving it, great work, guys, but unfortunately the "Settings now persist across reboots" change You mentioned for version 0.9 does not seem to work for me as far as the screen brightness is concerned. Volume keeps its setting just fine, but the brightness goes back to an about 60% level each time I start the device. Which, if all goes well, is just once a day, of course, but still.
Is it just me or have You already noticed this Yourselves (and are eventually already working on a fix)?
Again - thanks so much for all Your work (and the ingenious idea to begin with)!
Real place economy :) I wonder why I waited so long to install it.
@Uwe That's what previous versions have always done and that's what this version does still, we just offer the user the ability to override it (for whatever reason, it was requested). :)
@Fabrice This, unfortunately, is completely out of our control. It's part of dsme and Nokia doesn't offer the option to disable the progressive dimming and brightening.
Excellent!
Don't forget to remove the default Volume & Backlight icons from the panel, moving this much more efficient one in their place! :)
Nice touch with LCARS too.
Thank you Ryan & Adam! :))
Very Good: Only one icon for volume and backlight intensity Not so good: The option to reduce backlight volume on n800's to zero what seems to be bad. there is only a hint not to do that. better would be a device detection routine in the software :)
Very handy application! It works pretty well on my N800. IMHO The backlight scroller is not enough reactive: after moving it, the backlight may take some time to reach the correct luminosity level.
Excellent application! My tablet is now much more usable as the default 'low' backlight was too bright for night reading. Also combines light & sound on oone icon, so is tidier on the status bar. Nokia should replace their own one with this.
