A MIDI remote controller via UDP/IP multicast
A MIDI remote controller application that sends MIDI data over the network, using UDP/IP multicast. Inspired by multimidicast (http://llg.cubic.org/tools) and designed to be compatible with ipMIDI for Windows (http://nerds.de).

@ Rui Just contact me when you got something. I'll be happy to test for you and give some feedback. Thank you for this neat app!
@Paul de Vries,
awesome video! and it actually shows that it is really compatible with ipMIDI on windows. there, I confess I never tried there ;)
re. using OSC in the future: well, i don't have a real plan but i could... problem is i don't make use of OSC that much if any at all :) so things might fall short on the motivation area.
hopefully, someone (like you?) with some OSC expertise might step in and help. my main concern is about configurability, naming conventions, discovery and what not...
Cheers && thanks again.
I made a simple tutorial to show how to turn a Nokia N900 into a midi controller using renoise.

don't mind my faulty spell checker :p
Well, QmidiCtl is a remote MIDI controller. If you don't know what MIDI stands for, then you probably won't find any use for this thingie.
MIDI is a very specialized communication protocol developed in the early 80s for inter-connecting and controlling electronic musical instruments and computer programs that implement it.
Yes, it may control the volume on the computer next room, provided it's running a proper MIDI receiver program for just that :)
Sorry again, for my techno-geeky-english speach :)
Cheers
@pash g this program is meant for musicians that want to control their music program with the n900.
@rui I tested this with Renoise and it works great! are their any plans to use OSC in the future? seems that it's withly used on the iphone and it iliminates the need of a 3rd party program on the receiver side.
And in plain English? Sorry Rui, but none of that means anything to me...
Does it mean I could control the volume on my computer next room? Or otherwise what's a good example of common use of this app? Thanks
QmidiCtl is a MIDI remote controller for your DAW (digital audio workstation). It was designed to work primarily with yours truly Qtractor (http://qtractor.sourceforge.net) but it can be freely adapted to work with any other MIDI controlled DAW eg. Ardour (http://ardour.org).
QmidiCtl sends and receives MIDI data via UDP/IP multicast, so that it is only suitable to be used over an class C LAN. Of course, it is made to use the wifi/wireless interface of your maemo handheld eg. Nokia N900.
On the back-end computer, where your DAW is located, you should run QmidiNet as the MIDI over UDP/IP gateway (http://qmidinet.sourceforge.net) or midimulticast (http://llg.cubic.org/tools). As said it is also made compatible with ipMIDI for Windows (http://nerds.de) so QmidiCtl is not exclusive to Linux sound & music production studios :)

So this does what exactly?
