A version which works (v0.13.2-3fb) is available in Extras-testing.
ehm... i have to go back on my previous comment, as the app is not working after pr 1.2... mstardict is an alternative that still works, but i do prefere qstardict... hopefully it'll be patched soon... =)
great app, although it is a bit weird to set up, it is extremely useful and easy to use... thank you!
One great application. Wasn't easy getting it to work. Amazing multiple dictionary definitions simultaneously. I love it.
No matter what I do, I can not get the dictionaries working. I have downloaded and unzipped the dictionary files into the folder /home/user/MyDocs/stardict/dic and checked from plugin settings that this directory is listed there. But the Dictionaries tab in the settings does not list any dictionaries.
Without dictionaries, the application is totally useless.
Use this all the time for work. Thanks
Sorry,i don't know what ist wrong? if you help me please, with the information about where to get dictionaries and how to install to: Nokia N900 Lynux ... Words list 1. QStarDict 2. Menu/Configure 3. Plugins(under stay: Pronounce words using this command: espeak) 4. V stardict 5. Key 6. StarDict Plugin settings/Expand abbreviations 7. + 8. Chance file? or Nokia N900 (new file) 9. /home/user/MyDocs/stardict/dic... and i cann't not more, help meeeeee :o( PLS Bye dix.osola@hotmail.com
Thanks so much for this great app! Now I can use the N900 as dictionary even when it's off-line, and moreover it's much quicker than looking up on-line dictionaries. I've found some glitches when trying to customize, which I filed as bug to garage. Also, I think this package should depend on and install bzip2. All the available stardictionaries seem to come in bz2 format, and need to be uncompressed by bunzip2. Having seen how people struggle with installing dictionaries, I've posted some instructions here: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=558112#post558112
Just finished installing the dictionaries. Thanks for the guidance provided on this forum. Very rewarding as these are wonderful dictionaries to have.
Thanks for the app.
Just a though: the definition area is larger in the screen shot than it is in my N900. How to enlarge it?
I feel obligated to post this so others can avoid the time I wasted trying to get this to work. This was posted by maemo.it in talk and was the best help that I found: 1) download your dictionary on your pc from: http://xdxf.revdanica.com/down2/inde...ormat=StarDict 2) uncompress it using your pc program. if you use linux, just click on file and use your relative program to uncompress it. otherwise install file roller from repos. If you use windows use winrar (or http://7-zip.org) 3) at this point, after uncompress operation, you will have a folder (in my case stardict-English_Italian-2.4.2) with 3 files inside: English_italian.dict.dz English_italian.idx English_italian.ifo 4) open xterminal on your N900 and write: mkdir /home/user/.stardict/dic/ 5) copy folder inside /home/user/.stardict/dic/ directory To do this connect your N900 to your pc as mass store and copy (by clicking your mouse) your dict folder into MyDocs folder. After did disconnect N900 from your PC, open xterminal and digit: cd MyDocs mv your_dict_folder /home/user/.stardict/dic/ (eg. in my case, like before: mv stardict-English_Italian-2.4.2 /home/user/.stardict/dic/) that's all
Edward, thanks for trying but I'm not a linux or unix user so I would need exact instructions and syntax. I'm getting errors just trying to perform the mkdir .stardict/dic command. I was able to get dictd_www.dict.org_gcide.dict.dz, dictd_www.dict.org_gcide.idx dictd_www.dict.org_gcide.ifo to the phone but I'm not even sure if these are the correct files.
Great App....after a little bit of work. For those who are having trouble...yes the help file is wrong as the device doesn't support --J so this is how I did it.
1) Download the tar.gz or tar.bz2 file with the dictionary stuff. 2) Do the first command in the help file to make the /.stardict/dic diretory. 3) With winRar or whatever unpack it yourself and move the resulting files to the device. 4) In xterm find go to root mode, cd to the directory where the files are (probably /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/) and use the "mv" command to put them in the ~/.stardict/dic" directory. 5)viola
I didnt actualy, because I still dont know how. Only thing what I did managed, was downloading the dictionary files I have found on the net, in the "Dictionary" folder (I have created it in the "Documents" folder in the N900. But thats all - the QStarDict application dont detect them, so no success...
Peter, can you post how you installed the library. I'm having the same issue. The interface looks good but the help menu needs help.
Sorry guys, maybe the info about dictionary installation on Wiki is satisfactory for a Linux user, but not for me. Where should I write in the command line - in PC or X terminal? How should it looks like exactly? I am missing the name of the dictionary in the command line... I am just a simple everyday user, and would appreciate if you will consider us too at the explanations... No offence... :)
Thanks, Peter
I try to unpack the dictionary file with the command: tar xjvf but it gives me tar: invalid option --j. Why is that?
Another favourite application I used on my N800 now usable on my N900. Thanks Alexander.
Raz, if you tap the help option in the menu it takes you to the Wiki that gives full information about where to get dictionaries and how to install them.
How can one add words in the dicionary. It is a nice looking application but with no words/dictionaries in it. Also can't get the Dictionaries Tab and Plugins Tab to work (under Settings). Not even the info button works.
Screenshot added.
Could we get a screen shot ?
