bricked n900 under 24 hours

How can i get my n900 connected to PC when it freezes when 5 bubbles are
shown in screen in bootup (animated stuff, one bubble is bigger and moves)?

with n800 you needed to press one of the keys when booting up, but atleast
shift or blue shift (no idea what the real name is) doesn't do the trick.
machine sees the device for a second and thats it.

any tips please?

installed crash-reporter because of random reboots (i suspect MfE + regular
google) and after that plus manual reboot, the device was bricked.

if you want flash it you don't need to push a special key anymore. Just
start flasher and then connect the n900 via usb to the computer. If you
turn it on, flasher will gain control over the device.

Good luck,

I never needed to press any keys to flash my 770, N800 nor N810.

There are special keys that make the tablet wait a bit more for USB
host; on the N900 the special key is holding down "u" while you plug in
the USB data cable when the tablet is off, according to the N900
flashing instructions.

AFAIU it'll turn itself on as soon as you plug in the cable (just like
older tablets turned themselves on as soon as you plugged in the
charger).

Hi

I got it working. Win 7 wants to install a driver of its own so it blocks
very effectively functionality of flasher-3.5. No idea if there is a way to
get around it. So Win 7 updates cant be done unless you get your device to
pc-suite -mode unless somebody gets a way around (if).

I downloaded the firmware 42 three times and third time got it working.
Managed to flash without problems using pen drive ubuntu.

but now the whole device isn't so much better from a solid brick.

-Web browser doesnt accept text input to text boxes, reloads the page couple
of times when trying and finally renders a page
"Päivitä"(its finnish with broken umlauts,päivitä, means: update) plus a
link to the page you tried to open

-app manager can't install anything. tried to install foreca weather and log
shows this:

*dpkg:unrecoverable fatal error, aborting:
unable to open files list file for package 'fmtx-middleware':Structure need*

-email app starts but shows blank screen and the circle that indicates
loading

have I done something wrong? is there something wrong in the 42 image? is
there problems with my hardware? should I just file a bug per point?

Could you give the output of "cat /proc/partitions" and "mount"? Maybe
your eMMC image is too old...

I reflashed with NSU just in case and now it seems that every problem has
perished.

Has there been any changes to 42.11 image recently? Or some transfer
problems? It appears to be very mystical because the third time i downloaded
the image it started to work at the first place and with that those problems
appeared. But when reflashed again with Win7 + NSU, the device works as out
of the box.

If you used flasher in Ubuntu, you probably flashed only the rootfs and
cellular modem (unless you flashed twice: first the rootfs and cellular
and then the EMMC image). But with NSU it flashed the eMMC (internal
memory card) also.

Still one problem with app manager

See attachment for app manager log. First and third failed to install, middle one installed without problems. Seems to be complaining something about opt. Sorry if this has already been covered somewhere else.

That two applications are installed fine here. It has something to do
with the /opt stuff.

What other applications have you installed before?
Have you installed applications just from Extras or from other
repositories?
