Maemo Community Council elections - reminder

Hi all,

A quick reminder that nominations for candidates for the Maemo Community
Council Q3 2010 elections are now being accepted. The nomination period
runs until next week, at which point I will be taking karma for the
electorate. That means two things:

1. If you would like to vote in the election, and you don't yet have 10
karma, you have 6 days to get there.
2. If you would like to be a candidate for the election, or there is
someone who you would like to see be a candidate who has not yet
declared, you have 6 days to get your nomination in.

So far, only one person has nominated themselves. We typically get a
number of nominations on the last day, but I would encourage people to
announce early to avoid the rush. As a tiny extra incentive, I plan to
list the candidates in order of their nomination on the voting page this
year.

Thank you!
Dave.

Just a small note to everyone - it might be not obvious, but IMHO the next
Council term is THE term that will determine how the Maemo <-> MeeGo
community relations will be, as this will be the term that will see the
MeeGo
1.1 release, the Maemo Summit replacement (-> MeeGo Conference), and also
covers 2010H2 which was announced as the tentative timing for the first
MeeGo-Harmattan device (=new users, new developers !).

I feel many take maemo.org for granted, the stuff in Extras and all the
infrastructure that ticks in the background - which gets noticed only if it
misbehaves. If there is to be a solid bridge between maemo.org (with Extras
and all) and MeeGo Extras and community repositories, this is the time to
fight/work for it. Nokia cannot do this *instead* of the community - it will
have
to take it's fate into it's own hands - and that's something the Council
*can*
and should do as a legitimately elected representative body.

Some of you might have already noticed Council activites on MeeGo lists
pertaining this, and sure enough, I think the people in the next term will
have
to spend at least as much time in meego.com as they do on maemo.org.
That is the only way we can maintain at least some forms of
continuity/migration and avoid the slow death of the maemo.org
community (yes, if you are a user, that includes the fate of your N900,
too).

Best regards,
Attila

nobody of the current Council members is going to run again? I really
would like to see at least a couple of you running for the Council
again, because I think it would be better to have 3 new people, but
also 2 old/expert members to make a good job in the Council. 5 new
members would be difficoult to make it work, in my hopinion....

Regards,
