While there are available multiple solutions for DSLR Geotagging, would it not be very convenient (and economical) to use the exiting equipment like the N900? This would eliminate need to carry (and purchase) a separate device.

Solution #1: A simple application that records the time and GPS position

Posted on 2009-10-27 14:11 UTC by Sascha Makela.

All one would need to do is to synchronize the clocks of the N900 and the DSLR. The application would simply record the time and the GPS position. Basically something that would work like the PhotoTrackr Mini DPL900 (http://www.gisteq.com/PhotoTrackr/PhotoTrackrDPL900.php). Additionaly a desktop application would be needed to download the data from the N900 and to add the Geotag to the picture files (preferably to RAW files too).

Solution #2: Update image info via USB

Posted on 2009-10-27 15:10 UTC by Attila Csipa.

Enable GPS/location logging, and then when finished, plug the CAMERA INTO THE TABLET via USB, where it would mount it as mass storage, look through the images and update EXIF info directly for images shot at times for which we have a location info. No need for a PC application at all. Sadly, no USB host mode on the N900 (STILL) so for now this would only work on a N810.

Solution #3: Shared storage

Posted on 2009-10-27 15:14 UTC by Attila Csipa.

Use a 'common denominator' memory card in your camera (microSD for the N900, SD for the N800, etc), and when finished taking photos, take and insert the memory card into the tablet. The tablet can then look up the images and update EXIF data accordingly. Again, easier on the N800 and N810 as they have externally accessible slots.
