At the moment when I miss a call, there's only visual sign of it. It's not very useful when I have my N900 in my pocket. It'd be very handy if there was a sound (beep) notification for it as well. It might play every 5 minutes for example.

The best solution would be if a phone user could set time intervals, sound and behaviour for specific event (call, text, mail). There is an application called "Remind Me" for Symbian phones. I think it's a good example.

Solution #2: Night_mode

Implement Night Mode - stop all sounds from button press until cancel or 6am (and 6pm) - besides a phone call, of course!.
Additional - it may also stop some activity like e-mail retrieval, RSS autofeed etc for battery conservation.
Yet another note: the "button" may be actually "offline mode" for skype/google/ovi status but that requires some additional thinking.

User is able to set timelines when notification system is on. For example 06-20 on work day and 10-01 on weekend.
