Location aware FM transmitter power setting control panel

It would have a slider for the wattage, a checkbox for checking GPS for location and getting the maximum wataage permited by local legislation, a number box for how often check the location, a checkbox for always using the maximum power allowed for the region, a map location picker that is avaiable when not using GPS for choosing location (if you pickt he middle of the ocean where no legislation about maximum power allowed is present, you can use the transmitter up to the maximum power the hardware canhandle)

Perhaps also include a database of airports so if your location is too close to an airport the maximum transmision power is reduced to comply. Also perhaps an option check for altitude and if far enough from the ground to not be on an airplane cut down the maximum allowed to whatever is the safe limit for use on airplanes (even if it's zerio, no transmission power at all)

Also it would be nice to have a button to download an updated database of power restricitons per regions (and the airport database too)

0 solutions for this brainstorm.

Given that alot of N900 owners use Linux on their desktop computer as well, and that trying to pre-load maps is difficult without a windows or Mac PC, the download map functionality should be built into the Ovi Maps software.

The Ovi Maps application should have functionality similar to Nokia Map Loader in the settings of the program which allows the following:

Downloading of maps by region

Selection of storage device for downloaded maps

Ability to check for map updates

Ability to erase maps by region

Hi everyone,

I would very much like to have an application that can monitor my position and warn me, if I get near one specific point.

My use-case is, that I regularily forget to go to the ATM or whatever and would like to have my N900 remind me when I come near.

Is there such an application already?

Cheers,

I would like to bind alarms/reminders to a geo location rather than (just) to a time. I should be able to have a set of spots I visit regularly and be able to set an alarm that goes off the next time I'm near a selected spot. Also I should be able to set an alarm that goes off the next time I'm back at the curent location.

Usage scenarios:

Remind me to buy a tooth brush next time at the supermarket

Remind me to take my bicycle when I'm back here

Use the FM receiver as a TMC receiver together with Ovi Maps

I think it would absolutely awesome if one could combine the FM receiver with Ovi Maps, so the navigation app could use the traffic information available on FM frequencies when planning routes. As the N900 has both an FM receiver and a GPS, i think this could improve the navigation experience quite much. More info on TMC here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_Message_Channel

Lost and found

I propose an application to utilise Google's geolocation API to allow users to either find themselves or their missing device. This will be useful for times when the user and/or device are indoors or in a built up city area and GPS data is not available.

An example of the process can be viewed here - input a web facing MAC address to be presented with very accurate location information. Skyhook already offer services to developers and there are lots of iphone and android location tools using their data.

It should be possible to run a Kismet type scan for MAC addresses of wireless access points as a startup and shutdown process and also at user defined intervals and on demand - the results of the scan could then be passed to the geolocation service and the results presented to the user via a utility on the device or on a secure web page. Power levels of the located SSIDs could be displayed either numerically or colour coded to give an idea of the distance from the device.

While first consideration is for a location/security utility, the same process could be used to set profiles depending on location.

0 solutions for this brainstorm.

Need an "offline" GPS tracking application (N900)

I am looking with some help to modify or create a program like eCoach that is able to track your path/position on a map. I want to use it for off road mountain biking, I am very curious to see what my path looks like on a map and to see how far/fast and how long it took.

I think eCoach already has all that built in, but with one major problem. It seems the program only works if you have an always on data connection. I do not have 3g service avalible for my N900 and wont pay $15 a month for 2g service that I will never use (99% of the time for me I am in a wifi zone).

So I think all that really needs to be done is one of two things.

Option 1 - have an application that can download your map data ahead of time and pull it off the phone memory rather than download it.

Option 2 - let the program run all the gps data for tracking/time/distance/speed and not have it overlay on a map. This gets recorded to the phone and later when you are in a internet enabled spot you can open that data and apply it to a map.

Even better if you can export the final product, with the image and data to some kind of file and save it on a computer.

0 solutions for this brainstorm.
