The main idea behind this Brainstorm is to improve the display of the battery charge level of the n900

Currently the only information display is a rough iconised / graphical representation of the battery within the status bar and status menu (touch/click the status bar). It would be nice to have some form of percentage displayed somewhere in the UI

Sometimes it's really annoying and/or embarrassing to have your phone ring loudly in a meeting, theatre or something like that, because you have forgotten to change your Profile to silent. Similarly it's annoying to hear from your friends/colleges complaints of why you didn't reply to your IM when you forgot to change the status to busy. Since often these events are repeating or entered in your Calendar it would beneficial to be able to somehow combine these so that it would do it automatically for you.

Delivering Java SE to Fremantle

The purpose of this proposal is to assess the demand and determine the best way to deliver a Java SE - runtime for Fremantle / Maemo 5.

Java SE is the runtime intended for Desktop systems, but implementations for Mobile Devices do exist. The possible target audience for a Java SE runtime on Fremantle is considerably smaller than for a Java ME implementation, but many business applications still provide Java interfaces for legacy compatibility. Providing the possibility to run these business applications might lower the barrier for corporations to consider using Maemo 5 in a corporate environment.

Ideally, this brainstorm proposal results in a Java SE Package available in the Fremantle-Repositories for easy distribution through the Maemo 5 App Manager.

The thread that sparked this proposal:
Java for Maemo 5

This is not supposed to be yet another "Nokia should do it" proposal - if you want an implementation, please vote not only for the "Nokia-option", but place a 2nd vote on your favourite community solution so we will know where to invest our time first, should Nokia really decide not to buy an official License.

Protecting private content when lending device

When I get my Maemo 5 device, I imagine I will want to show it off to other people, and let other people try it out for themselves, as it looks like it will be very 'touchable' and nice and easy to use. I would like to do this because of being proud of the device, and this also might encourage other people to get one.

However, there may be some content on the device (pictures, to-do items, documents, emails, etc.) that I would rather not show to the person to which I'm handing the device. I would like to brainstorm ways of keeping such things private.

Note that I realise that if someone was determined and had long enough, they could bypass security in any number of ways and this Brainstorm idea isn't about that. This idea is about very short term (a few minutes probably) lending of the device to guests, where I will usually be present beside them, and is only designed to cover preventation of casual or accidental snooping of private stuff.

Please feel free to add new solutions and vote for existing ones. All discussion should be at http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=33414

8 solutions for this brainstorm.

A MIDP - compatible Java ME runtime is present on most of today's smartphones, nearly all of the latest Nokia devices are delivered with Java ME available.

It is an established technology with a big developer base, there are many Applications and Games available, but currently there is no easy way for endusers to be able to run their MIDlets on the new Maemo 5 Platform.
