Google calendar is a very popular calendar service and I think it
should be supported on the Calendar application for better and
complete user experience.

It seems that you can sync google calendar using Mail for
Exchange, but this support is limited. The limited support of
Google calendars in MfE will only allow synchronizing the first
calendar in your google calendars. Consider how limiting this is
in this example:

Let's say you have two calendars, a personal calendar and a
business calendar. With existing support, you can only
synchronize personal calendar and not the business calendar.

It makes the transparent syncing of Android very attractive in
comparison.

3 solutions for this brainstorm.

Improve the task management support to Calendar

The task support included on the Calendar is pretty basic and I think is not very useful IMHO because I miss the following options:

1) I can't order the tasks, they are shown in the order as they were written. I'd like to think only once about the better order for accomplising the tasks, usually at the early hours of the day, and not every time I check the list of pending tasks. I'd like to arrange my To-Do list with some simple finger movements :)

2) I'd like to add tasks on the Agenda, in order to check events and notes that could interfere with the task. So that, I think that adding "New task" (and "New note" to the Agenda makes sense.

3) Sometimes a task precises to be done at certain particular time, and I miss the possibility of adding the start and finish times and having the alarm functionality for not missing it, like I can do with events.

4) If I don't accomplish a task, I'd like to have an easy way to reassign to another date/time. Instead of deleting the task from the previous position on the calendar I'd like to be marked as deferred so I could follow the new assigned date/time.

5) To have a pool of tasks without date assigned, and be able to assign when I have time for thinking the best date/time to do it.

7 solutions for this brainstorm.

An indexing and tagging document manager

My tablet stores so many document files in various formats that I don't know myself what's there any more. I have stored there also files coming from other portable devices I've been using in the last years, so there's really a significant part of my life there, though in a way it's difficult to browse and search.

I think a great help to productivity would be an indexing system which presents document files stored in the tablets according to title, contents (possibly with some kind of dynamic tag cloud), document type and so on, like a library index. It should be able to read the several file types you can find on a tablet, including txt, html, odf, doc, xls, et cetera.

An indexing crawler daemon could be made to run only when the tablet is connected to the mains, to avoid draining the battery. Some kind of hash file could help to get instant results.

Also, a widget that lists the N last edited documents could be useful.

"Intelligent" Date Picker

The N900 uses a scrolly "Rolodex" or "odometer" style date picker for Tasks and Events. This paradigm, perhaps inspired by the iPhone and other "touch" devices, may be simple (i.e. it has no intelligence and was probably easy to code) but it is also inefficient (i.e. often requires excessive effort to reach the required outcome) and ineffective (i.e. doesn't address typical date picking requirements).

This brain storm is calling for an improved date picker to become either the default common method or an optional method that can be enabled via Settings. This improved date picker is called the "Intelligent Date Picker".

The default date picker has the following problems and the Intelligent Date Picker should address some or all of them:

Day-of-week. DOW is often the main factor in choosing a date. E.g. need to schedule a meeting for next Tuesday. Or, a club meeting occurs on the 4th Thursday of the month. The default date picker does not show the DOW of the highlighted date.

Typical Day, Week and Month navigation. The default date picker makes it difficult to complete the following common tasks:

Go forward or backward by weeks. E.g. move the meeting back 2 weeks.

Add/subtract 30, 60 or 90 days to/from a date. E.g. the quote expires in 90 days, what date is that?

Jump to the first/last day of current month, next month, previous month, quarter or year, etc. E.g. to jump to the first day of the current month requires a swipe, maybe two, then touch the "1". If the odometer "bounces", user might touch the wrong day number. It's a similar process to find the last day of the current month. For next month or previous month, there is the additional step of touching the right month, then perhaps several swipes to find the right day number.

Keyboard is not used by the default date picker. This is a waste of good hardware. Perhaps the arrow keys could be put to good use.

Continuous date scroll, i.e. press & hold and dates just continuously increase (or decrease). In the current odometer paradigm, the sections of the date are decoupled so a continuous sequence of dates is not possible. The Intelligent Date Picker shouldn't have this limitation.

Additional information while selecting a date. To facilitate the user, some additional data describing the current selection can easily be displayed. E.g.

Day of Week

Day of Year

Week of Year (useful for planning vacations)

Number of days before (or after) the initial date (the initial setting in the date picker supplied by the application)
