Automatically switch to Mobile Sites when on 2G

Posted on 2010-06-16 19:14 UTC by Chris Palfrey. Status: Waiting, Categories: Internet & Networking.

Not sure if this has been discussed (or is already possible) but I would like to have MicroB direct me to mobile versions of websites when on 2g. The desktop versions of websites work great on 3g/wifi but I find 2g to be insufferably slow.

Maybe this could be an enhancement to the user agent switcher plugin?

EDIT:  The proposal is to make this a user option, so if you are happy with the desktop versions of some sites at 2g speed you can turn it off.

disabling cellular leaving internet

Posted on 2010-06-18 11:24 UTC by Z P. Status: Under consideration, Categories: System.

sometimes(especially, once I'm abroad and have to pay high roaming fees) I would like to be able to disable all soft/hardware that is responsible for functioning of the cellular, and in the same time be able to use internet for sip/skype, in order to

1) save battery

2) not to answer accidently an incoming call

secure bags with bluetooth handsfree!

Posted on 2010-06-30 11:22 UTC by nas nahhh. Status: Waiting, Categories: Utilities, Devices, Accessories, Open sourcing.

WHY?

Often I travel by ship / train long for many hours. Often I sleep. Every time I am afraid of my bag, someone could steal it as I sleep.

POSIBLE SOLUTION?

It would be awsome if I could put my bluetooth handsfree in my bag and have my n900 in my pocket. n900 could run an application that checks every 2 - 3 seconds BlueTooth signal strength ( maybe could be configurable range ) and if the strength gets low or none, then n900 will alarm loudly / vibrate.

I hope my idea was clean. And since I don't know much about programming ( only php :( ) I hope someone will find intresting my idea and make it!

Location of phone with gps

Posted on 2010-07-06 18:59 UTC by Thomas Navara. Status: Under consideration, Categories: Location & Navigation.

I would like to be able to know current location of my phone.

When I cannot find it (is it in work, home, summerhouse,...), when somebody steals it from me (possibly hurting me in process),... there're plenty legal reasons for it.

I imagine application, that will run on background and periodically report it's position to server or send it by email, etc. While it can be done python script,...

There're of course many issues/options (how often report, go online if offline for more than hour, turn on gps if not on-gps for more than four hours, send position as email / fetch url on your server,...) to decide, but that's for discussion.
