ANT+ support

There exists a protocol named ANT+ which is touted as a low power wireless sensor network. Many devices use it, in particular bicycle computers and heart rate monitors. It apparently uses frequencies in the 2.4GHz band. I know there are many transceivers in the N900. I was hoping one of them could be made to work with ANT+. Even though I am a developer, I have never worked with wireless protocols or RF in general, so I thought I would ping on others here before going on a wild goose chase.

Some Linux software already works with the protocol using a USB adaptor that is basically an ANT+ to serial adaptor:

Improve N900 security

I think most of us are familiar with PIN code system on mobile devices. However on N900 if you dont know the PIN you can simply skip that window and it will continue to boot into OS. So even without SIM support e.g. you wont be able to make phone calls but all other functions are available.

Meta profile selection

Profiles for not only ringtone settings:

  • Set Bluetooth
  • Set 2G/3G/Auto
  • Startup/Stop OpenVPN or other tunnels
  • Set IM states
  • Set Volume
  • Set Geolocation for IM
  • Startup/Stop geotracking
  • Startup/Stop FM Sender
  • ...
  • (ringtone/vibration settings of course)

(all of these settings at a time with profile change or groups of them)

triggered by events like:

  • Menu  entry like the classic profile selector
  • Defined WLAN is existant
  • GSM state (if set to auto)
  • Geolocation
  • DBUS trigger
  • ...

These MetaProfiles should be extendable (to create new modules for triggering and action)

Port of Screeble (Android) on Maemo 5

Posted on 2010-04-21 09:07 UTC by Jules Me. Status: Under consideration, Categories: System.

I have been thinking of an app that could wakup the N900 by simply taking the phone in hand, using the accelerometer to calculate the angle of the phone, therefore light up the screen. It has been done before and an application exists for Android (http://www.brighthub.com/mobile/goog...ews/58778.aspx).

This is exacly what I'd like the N900 to do. We do have the hardware to do this, but my coding skills aren't that great ...

I was think of a crond that reads a file to get the coordonates of the phone x,y,z.

the file /sys/class/i2c-adapter/i2c-3/3-001d/coord has the coordinates, if a crond could read the file then unlock the phone and light up the screen.
Any ideas?

Smoother Fade In for Alarm Sound

Currently it sounds too harsh, each rise follows with crackles. For alarm it is important that volume fades in very gently.
