features could be:

- record to a mp3 audio file / *.aac  // kept directly on the device
- manage black/white list
- keep a quick overview journal
- direct on entry-press call back feature

impressions:

- Advanced Call Manager
- PhonePilot
- or just good old "answering machine"

Automatic Keylock based on built-in proximity sensor

Posted on 2010-02-28 14:13 UTC by Saâd BENAMTI. Status: Under consideration, Categories: Utilities, User Experience, System.

The idea is to use the proximity sensor to detect if the phone is inside a pocket.

Somehow to replace the function of the lock slider with an automatic keylock function so the phone automatically locks when the proximity sensor is being covered, and automatically unlocks when the sensor is uncovered again

Also, When you make or receive a call, the automatic keylock deactivates.

If you are or was a symbian user, you may recognize PocketSensor that does the same job...

Anyone can do a little applet to allow this handy "feature"?

N900 as secondary display

Posted on 2010-03-17 06:32 UTC by Janne Palo. Status: Under consideration, Categories: Utilities.

I would like the possibility to use my N900 as a secondary PC monitor.

I know there are Remote Desktop apps but this is not what i need. What i need is a app or mod to get the PC to identify N900 as a 800*480 lcd (touchscreen) monitor, where i could extend my desktop (windows, linux, osx, all wich have multiscreen support). This would add hundreds of possibilities to N900 + home PC usage.

ANT+ support

There exists a protocol named ANT+ which is touted as a low power wireless sensor network. Many devices use it, in particular bicycle computers and heart rate monitors. It apparently uses frequencies in the 2.4GHz band. I know there are many transceivers in the N900. I was hoping one of them could be made to work with ANT+. Even though I am a developer, I have never worked with wireless protocols or RF in general, so I thought I would ping on others here before going on a wild goose chase.

Some Linux software already works with the protocol using a USB adaptor that is basically an ANT+ to serial adaptor:

Bridge the gap between Modest and competing smartphone email clients

Posted on 2010-04-05 19:23 UTC by Christian Sarrasin. Status: Under consideration, Categories: Internet & Networking, Utilities, User Experience.

If Maemo/Meego is to be a serious contender in the business/smartphone arena, a decent email client should be an integral part of the offering.  Compared to other platforms, such as Blackberry (obviously), but also the iPhone or even S60, the Maemo email client is seriously underpowered, even for mundane tasks.
